Fanta Pineapple was first released in Japan in 1987. After a few years of its Japanese release, it was released in the United States in 1989 and in many other countries.
In 2002, in the United States, Fanta Pineapple, alongside other flavors: Fanta Orange, Fanta Grape, Fanta Strawberry was highly promoted by spoke-ladies named "The Fantanas." After advertising the four core flavors of its Fanta brand, its popularity soared, leaving the popularity of the four flavors steady in demand for many years.
In 2024, in Australia, Fanta Pineapple became the second Fanta flavour other than orange to enter the Australian market (after Fanta Raspberry and Fanta Raspberry Zero Sugar) for a permanent stay.
