Fanta is a brand of different types of primarily fruit flavored sodas. It was released in 1940 due to difficulties importing Coca-Cola syrup into Nazi Germany during World War II due to an American trade embargo.

History[]

The Fanta brand got first created as a substitute in Germany in 1940 because of difficulties importing Coca-Cola syrup into Nazi Germany during World War II due to an American trade embargo.

To circumvent this, Max Keith, the man in charge of Coca-Cola Deutschland during World War II, decided to create a new product for the German market, using only ingredients available in Germany at the time, including whey and pomace – the "leftovers of leftovers," as Keith later recalled

The name was the result of a brief brainstorming session, which started with Keith making his team "use their imagination" ("Fantasie" in German), to which one of his salesmen, immediately retorted "Fanta!"

There are more than 200 flavors worldwide.
