Description

Coca-Cola Vanilla is a variant of Coca-Cola that is brown in color, similar to Pepsi Vanilla. Its flavor is the same as regular Coca-Cola, but with added Vanilla flavor.

History

Regular Coca-Cola already contains small amounts of vanilla. The history of adding additional vanilla flavoring to Coca-Cola. In the least in the United States, dates back at least to the 1940s when local soda fountain workers (soda jerks) would usually request to add a "shot" (roughly a couple of tablespoons) of vanilla syrup to a (12-16 oz) Coca-Cola fountain soda. All of this remained daily practice in ice cream shops where vanilla syrup and Coca-Cola were both conventional items for decades.

The Coca-Cola Company first began testing its official Vanilla flavored variation of Coca-Cola alongside other flavors such as Coca-Cola Cherry to audiences that visited the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Twenty years later, Coca-Cola Vanilla first introduced in stores in the United States on May 8th, 2002, followed by a roll-out in Canada. It was praised by The Coca-Cola Company themselves that the vanilla flavoring said that it's "the greatest innovation since Diet Coke in 1983". It also marked the 116th anniversary of the Coca-Cola Company.

At the start of 2003, a diet variant of Coca-Cola Vanilla that was called Diet Coke Vanilla was later released in stores in the United States as it was coexisting with regular Coca-Cola Vanilla during this time as well, though from 2003 and until 2005.

In November 2005, after low sales, The Coca-Cola Company announced concerning Coca-Cola Vanilla alongside its Diet variation will be subsequently discontinued in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom at the end of the year. In January 2006, it discontinued and replaced by Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla alongside Diet Coke Black Cherry Vanilla as meant to be a permanent flavor.

In May 2007, Coca-Cola Vanilla re-released in the United States and Canada due to the high demand. It resulted from both Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla and Diet Coke Black Cherry Vanilla to be discontinued sometime in summer 2007 in both countries due to a backlash from Coca-Cola Vanilla. As of March 2021, Coca-Cola Vanilla is still a permanent flavor in the United States and Canada.
